What is a retreat?

Retreat literally means: to withdraw.

A retreat is a personal search for (the voice of) God or to (re) find the common thread in your life. Of course, a retreat is also intended for people who want to realize practical things in life, for example: working on writing a book, finishing a thesis or reading a book in peace. A retreat is also of great value for people who have to make an important decision in their lives and feel that they are at a crossroads. In short, everyone has the need for a retreat from time to time.

Our quiet retreat weekends are held at the Emmaus Reflection Center. The weekend starts on Friday evening with a light meal and an introduction. During the weekend, there are times when we gather to silently meditate on the word of God. The rest of the day you can decide for yourself how you want to find peace and quiet. Some do this by going for a walk, reading, or taking time to rest and take a nap.

We hope that the 'silence' is no reason for you to doubt. At first it may take some getting used to and you may have to learn to be quiet. But if you surrender to it, you will definitely go home with a special experience.

Each retreat is a unique experience and cannot be predicted. When you open yourself up to receive from God in an atmosphere of peace and quiet, you will not leave the same. After all, God has said that He is a rewarder for those earnestly seeking Him. We hope you feel welcome to participate in one of our retreats.
